Recent studies
show that approximately 2.4 million eye injuries occur in the United
States each year- and almost half of these injuries occur at
home! Even the simplest, most common household chores may create
a hazardous environment for your eyes. Injuries can result from:
(1) projectiles thrown from lawn mowers, (2) power tools and hand
tools, (3) cutting and soldering equipment, (4) chemical cleansers
(i.e. bleach) and garden herbicides.
Furthermore, research has also shown that more and more people do
their own home improvement these days (i.e. remodeling, home construction
or maintenance). As a result, the "do-it-yourself" industry has
grown tremendously in the last few years-giving even more reason
for eye care professionals to be concerned about educating the public
about home safety eyewear.
At Rochester
Optical, we can provide you with home safety eyewear that can
protect you from permanent eye injury. Think of it this way: people
often invest in special clothing (or footwear) necessary for certain
activities-shouldn't you consider a pair of specialized eyewear
to protect your eyes?
